I always tend to do thumbnails more detailed than probably necessary. I try to justify it by saying it saves me time in the decision-making process once I go full-size. Who knows if that's actually true (NOPE!).

Hogwash!!!...all the detail in your preliminary sketches will only build your skill before the final drawing...
